Rough day for the Bulldog women in Ellis at the West Sub-State. Kinzie Rogers Fr. 109lbs, placed 5th going 2-2 on the day. Kinzie had a really tough loss in the blood round that kept her out of the automatic qualifying spot. Avia Banks So. 155 wrestled well going 1-3 on the day placing 5th. No day was more disappointing than that of Cassie Herron So. 101 lbs, who had won the last two tournaments. Cassie suffered two tough losses and never really got going on the day. Nora Budke lost both of her matches to qualifiers. Great season for our women with lots to build on for next year.
Trint Rogers Sr. 126lbs placed 3rd, defeating Menold from Sabetha who he faced in the opening round by a score of 2-0. Mitch Budke shook up his bracket defeating the previously undefeated Dillon of Sabetha in the opening round. After a 1-0 loss to Bird of Welsville, Budke punched his ticket to Hays by defeating Hilyard of Douglass who had defeated him the prior week in the consolation finals. A loss to Lowe, the State’s top ranked wrestler entering Sub-State, resulted in a 4th place finish. Micah Cauthers wrestled well but was 0-2 on the day.
