(Special to Eastern Kansas Sports)
Reese Bates, a sophomore, is a second-year varsity volleyball player at Blue Valley Southwest High School in Overland Park, KS. She plays indoor on Topeka Impact 16-1 Volleyball Club and Beach at P4:13 Beach Club. She utilized the coronavirus shut down to push herself and inspire thousands of other athletes across the world.
Prior to the coronavirus, Reese never utilized any social media platforms, rare for a teenager, she now has generated over 1,300,000 views on Twitter and over 250,000 views on Instagram since March.
When the virus shut down the sport she loves, she decided to take a new approach to challenge herself and hopefully inspire others in the volleyball world.
Reese created an Instagram & Twitter account in March 2020 and has made over 200 posts since. She decided to start posting volleyball drills & athletic training drills in her garage gym to not only get better at her sport and to try to have a “normal” schedule/routine, but to inspire and reach other volleyball players and athletes.
She was even asked to interview Kerri Walsh Jennings this summer and was invited to Kerri and Brooke Sweat (OLYMPIC Beach Volleyball team) clinic this past Saturday. One of her posts was reposted and has almost 400,000 views.
Reese has inspired thousands across the world and is a rising leader and influencer in women’s sports and training. This are just a few of the messages she has received.
