Shawnee Mission School District today announced that it’s schools, which include the high schools Shawnee Mission East, Shawnee Mission North, Shawnee Mission Northwest, Shawnee Mission South, and Shawnee Mission West, will begin the year with remote online learning.
The district also announced that beginning on Friday, August 21st, 2020 that all activities and athletic events are immediately suspended.
This decision affects the following school’s athletic schedules: Gardner-Edgerton, Lawrence, Lawrence Free State, Mill Valley, Olathe East, Olathe North, Olathe Northwest, Olathe South, and Olathe West.
The release from the district read:
“While starting remotely is in the best interest of students and staff, it is our intent that, as county data improve, we can transition to the hybrid model, where students attend school in-person twice a week. Beginning a future transition to in-person learning using the hybrid model gives our students and staff the best opportunity to learn how to manage learning in a safe manner. The ultimate goal is to eventually transition to full in-person learning for all students, as county health conditions allow.”
