Argonia-Attica Football Defense Set To Lead While Offense Finds Its Identity

Argonia-Attica Football Defense Set To Lead While Offense Finds Its Identity

Only two offensive starters will return this season for Argonia-Attica Titans football team.

Last year’s squad finished 5-5 with a Sectional Runner-Up.

It’s not just a minor offensive challenge but a complete overhaul.

“We graduated 75% of our offensive starters and 5 out of 5 offensive linemen, so rebuilding the line will be key,” said Luke Greenwood.

The lone returning starters for the 8M-I Titans is 6’1″ 175 lbs. dual-threat quarterback Xander Newberry.

Newberry will have a familiar target in Noah Phillips, a 6’1″ 180 lbs. tight end.

“We will lean on the defense early as the offense transitions from power back to the pistol,” said Greenwood.

This season the defense will return six of its eight starters.

Led by linebackers Blake Goodman and Adam Blanchat, who were two of the top tacklers in the state in 2019, the Titans will not lack experience on that side of the ball.

Other returning starters include seniors Judd Griffith, a defensive end at 6’0″ 180 lbs., linebacker Kaden Dickerson, 5’9″ 165 lbs., as well as Phillips and Newberry.

“We are looking to get better each week and be in a position to compete in our district for one of the playoff sports, said Greenwood.

This year Argonia-Attica, who competes in the South Central Border League, finds themselves in the west district.

They will host Pretty Prairie and Medicine Lodge at Argonia and Attica, respectively.

The Titans will travel for three district games: Goessel, Moundridge and ending the regular season at Fairfield.
