2019 season preview: New head coach David Pitts brings twenty-six years of coaching experience to the Vikings and will look to turn around a program that has struggled to maintain success on a year-to-year basis in recent decades. Northeast returns the bulk of its varsity contributors for the 2019 season. Do not be surprised if the Vikings exceed the current expectations put on the team.

Biggest game of 2019: v. Southeast. While Arma has not found success in recent years, the renewing of this rivalry sparked their most competitive outing of the 2018 season. At just about half-way through the season this contest will be a good gauge for where the new look Vikings are at under Coach Pitts.

Q&A:

Eastern Kansas Sports — In your first season as head coach, what will you bring to the team?

David Pitts — “As the new head coach, I look forward to the challenge of building on the foundation already established at Arma. I will bring in some discipline and rigor to the program to help move it forward and promote unity as a team.”

SEK What players within your football program will you look to for leadership?

DP — “Our leadership will be lead by our offensive line including Hunter Jackson, Keatyn O’Dell, Zach Cronister, and Gage Cronister. They will be working in front of quarterback Karter Dugan. We look for Josh Dickey, Logan Jenkins, Kenneth Atchison and Jasper Atchinson to guide our offense.”

SEK — Heading into the season what do you believe are your team strengths?

DP — “The team has had some ups and downs over the past three years. I think our strength lies in our senior class to come together and push for a better season to end their high school career on. They have worked hard this summer in weights and conditioning and are excited to get their senior season started.”

SEK — What will be the biggest change for your team heading into the 2019 season.

DP — “The change will be adjusting to a new coach and staff.”

SEK — What are your main goals for the upcoming season?

DP — “My expectation and goals for this season is to improve daily.”
